Holašovice
The village of Holašovice is located 15 km west of the town of České Budějovice in the district of the same name on the southern edge of the Hlubocko-zbudovské blaty mountains and on the north-eastern edge of the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area at an altitude of 498 m.
The village, which is first mentioned in 1263, is today one of the few in which the face of a typical Blato village of the 19th century has been preserved almost unchanged.
Farmsteads with richly decorated gables (the so-called peasant baroque style) make up most of the buildings in the village. Most of them also preserved the internal division of the homestead, which used to be a three-generation family unit. They are located around a characteristic rectangular square with a pond, on the northern edge of which stands a late Baroque chapel built in 1744.
In 1998, Holašovice was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List for its uniqueness.
Holašovice, together with nearby Plástovice, a village of a similar nature, is often frequented mainly by filmmakers for the authenticity of the 19th century environment.
